Hilary and Nick's wedding reception, The Randolph Hotel

Hilary and Nick are keen ballroom dancers and wanted a dance bands who could play a wide range of musical styles at the correct ballroom tempos. They booked Rob Stevens & The Mad Hatter Band for their reception in the ballroom at The Randolph Hotel.

Their first dance was a waltz to "Moon River", which we'd arranged especially for them. We sent them a CD of the arrangement prior to the wedding so they could practise their dance at exactly the correct tempo. On the day they gave a brilliant performance that was much appreciated (see photo).

After this, a dance instructor (Bruce) arrived to coach Hilary and Nick's guests in different dance styles - Cha-Cha-Cha, Jive, Charleston and Waltz. Everyone got up onto the dance floor and had a go! The band were guided by requests from Nick and the dance instructor, and were able to adjust dance tempos to suit inexperienced dancers.

Lizzie's and Garry's

requirements were unusual in that they wanted a mixture of classical and popular numbers to be played in their wedding ceremony (at Milton Hill House). They also wanted community singing (Fly Me To The Moon) during the ceremony and Jazz for the drinks reception on the hotel lawns after the ceremony. The problem here was that they wanted classical music and jazz. Very few jazz bands can play in "classical" mode and even fewer classical ensembles play jazz. Precious Metles doesn't suffer from this restriction because our team of professional musicians are very experienced in both styles.

We played the following music at Lizzie and Garry's wedding:

• Entry of the Bride:
  Bridal Chorus (R. Wagner)
• Signing of the register
  The Look Of Love (Bacherach)
  Unforgettable (Mack Gordon)
• Community singing
  Fly me To The Moon (with community singing and vocals from the band)
• Recessional:
  Wedding March (F. Mendelssohn)

With careful planning everything worked out perfectly. The timing of the music coincided exactly with the timing of the ceremony and there were no delays. It was relaxing for everyone to have a wide range of jazz (with occasional vocals) played during the photography after the formality of the wedding.

How much does this kind of service cost?

Normally there is no charge but if you leave it too late (less than four weeks bfore your big day) we sometimes have to charge extra for this service. This depends entirely on individual circumstances. Arranging music (be it classical or popular) requires years of training and experience, plus musicians who can tackle any style of music. Our arranger and composer has well over 30 years experience in arranging music for all sorts of ensembles and our confident professional musicians will ensure you get a great performance.
