Specialist Dance Bands are the only choice if you are a keen Ballroom dancer. There are many bands that describe themselves as a "Dance Band" but very few present programmes that are put together specifically for ballroom dancing. Rob Stevens & The Mad Hatter Band is our only Dance band.
"Swing Bands" play mostly Foxtrots, with the occasional Jive or Quickstep. Latin styles tend to be neglected
Salsa and Latin-American Bands neglect Ballroom styles such as Waltzes and Foxtrots.
Jazz bands are not well known for considering the needs of dancers but some bands are versatile and play music that can be danced to. The dances that are most common among jazz bands are Foxtrots and Quicksteps and Jive or Rock 'n Roll. You may find some of their music is good for some Latin styles such as Samba, Salsa & Bossa-Nova. Jazz bands without drums are not recommended for dancing.
Covers Bands play pop. 
You may find that some of their music is great for Jive/Rock 'n Roll but in general, Covers Bands are not good for more formal dance styles
