Recent government legislation regarding entertainment licenses has left local authorities in a state of confusion. The new laws are open to interpretation by local authorities so the situation regarding amplified music can vary from venue to venue, depending upon the area they are in. For instance, many Oxford college venues are allowed to have amplified music indoors but not outdoors. So, theoretically, they could have a band of pipers with drums playing all day out of doors but are not allowed to have a solo electric piano play a single note! Some venues aren't allowed to have any amplified music in or out of doors. Some venues will allow amplification for vocals only. It's very confusing! Ask your venue about this before booking a band! |
